Susan Walker Studio
Susan paints in a shared studio, renovated from a farmhouse built in 1889, in historic Gilman Village in Issaquah, Washington. An exploratory artist from an early age, she was educated under legendary American artist Wayne Thiebaud at UC Davis and continued her art education at the University of Washington. Susan paints to fulfill her own curiosity about the world.
The muse for her work is the intersection of art and psychology. For years, Susan has been captivated by the "hero's journey", that perpetual cycle of renewal common to all of us.
Susan has identified four quadrants of the hero's journey: Awakening, Adrift, Rebuilding, and Renewal. Each of her paintings inspired by of one of the quadrants. In her Visual Anthologies, Susan paints herself through the whole cycle, with the self-awareness to see patterns that help make decisions, anticipate obstacles, and relish moments of coherence relevant to her family, career, spirituality, community, or relationships.
